The first step on that road is to learn to tell yourself yes before you say yes to others. One big reason so many people dont like their lives is because they accidentally created a life thats not based on what they want. Because anything that comes up thats not on your Yes list is an automatic no.

I agree that writing the memoir ..stories about the own experiences , the choices made for you and you made.... is a good teacher to that individual. It also reflects to that writer, what he/she did not do. Analysing further, one finds out why one could not/ did not do it differently. All in all, it makes sense, the writer changes the direction, slows down a lot, takes more stops to reach the destination. Even the destination could be different. This is just one powerful bright light at a baseball game.

Thanks Sharon, I appreciate your thoughts. Hope you enjoy the journey through high school mementos as it sure beats being outdoors digging the white stuff.

After a whole week of being buried under more than two feet of snow, your suggestions are spot on! This is a good day to dig through my box of high school mementos, with scanner and notepad at hand.

Thanks for all your meaty content. Anyone, veteran memoirist or beginner will find inspiration here.

Yes, allowing that emotional truth to come out and be visible is very important, and yes, writing whether it be in morning pages, blogs or in letters is a perfect way of starting the 'clean-up' or is 'sorting' a better expression, in that clean-up reminds me of dirt removal and emotional memories aren't necessarily 'dirty' - they just need to be looked at for what they are, not for what there were assumed to be =-)
Looking forward to reading more and writing more

Since a friend gifted me with a tiny moleskine, I've also become a fan. Much neater than the small spirals I used to use, and more organized than the stash of index cards that came before the spirals. What next? ;-)

I'm hooked on Morning Pages for this purpose. Not always three pages (sometimes less, often more) and not every single day, but most days. Starting with only a twelve-week commitment to try it was what got me going. I needed the commitment, and that was the longest I could fathom making it for. It was enough. I'm hooked. Spiritual memoir underway.
